Introduction. Chronic Non-specific Ulcerative Colitis (UC) is a disease of the colonic mucosa and submucosa characterized by diarrheal stools, rectal bleeding, disposal of mucus, tenesmus, cramping abdominal pain and fever, often with sings of malnutrition.
Objective. Report the findings of nutritional status and provide nutritional recommendations for a patient with UC, underwent surgery for intestinal stenosis
Materials and methods. A thorough assessment of the nutritional status was performed considering anthropometric, biochemical, clinical and dietary indicators. All measurements were realized according to standardized techniques.
Results. The nutritional diagnosis was mild malnutrition at risk of progressing to moderate malnutrition due to the surgery. The patient reported no foods that cause relapse, avoiding dairy products as the disease reappeared.
Conclusions. Although is Chronic Non-specific Ulcerative Colitis a rare condition, it must be treated by a multidisciplinary team to prevent the patient from suffering malnutrition and relapse.
